How can we improve Simkl?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Let us filter “Airing Next” by release type

It would be useful if the Airing Next section let us choose which types of release we want to see—for example, theatrical, streaming, digital, DVD/Blu-ray, or film festival releases.

At the moment, a movie might say it’s coming out in three days, but when you open its page, that date is sometimes only for a film festival screening. That isn’t especially useful to most people, and you have to check each movie individually to find out when it will actually be widely available.

A release-type filter—or at least a label beside each date—would make the Coming Soon section much more…

  2. 2 way Sync with Emby Server

The Emby plugin for SIMKL is helpful but not very sophisticated, the effort the dev put it is obviously appreciated but wouldn't it be great to have an official SIMKL version that had two way syncing, it'd be great to change the watch state on either platform and have that sync across.

As a side note, also have the 2 way sync work when manually marking something as watched, currently the Emby plugin only works when the watch state reaches a pre-defined % that's set-up when you configure the plugin.

  5. Movie bingo

what if you could create a bingo board as a minigame with movies from your ptw or from your recommendations and you get points for clearing it
there would be leaderboard with people that cleared the most cards

easier way would be just getting 3 random movies and clearing them. if you do, you get a point, if you skip at least one, you can reroll (once per 3 days let's say) and lose progress

  6. Distinguished filters for physical media & digital releases

Currently in the lists, the “DVD” filter combines digital releases and physical media (in this regard, this label is misleading and should be renamed if it is to be kept).
I suggest adding (or replace by) distinguished filters for physical media releases only then for digital releases / VOD.

  9. Allow marking a show as "Completed" without marking every episode as watched

Currently, marking a show as completed automatically flags all of its episodes as watched. For many shows this is fine, but it doesn't fit how people actually watch certain series.
For anime especially, a lot of episodes aren't essential viewing, filler arcs, recap/summary episodes, side stories, and so on. Plenty of viewers intentionally skip these but still consider the show "finished." Right now there's no way to reflect that: I either have to mark episodes I never watched, or leave the show as incomplete even though I've seen everything I wanted to.

  11. Add a category or whatever that when a season is finished don't leave there on the watching list

On the watching section there are many series that are finished that maybe they will have an upcoming season or the show is still airing, but they should not be put on the watching list, put them somewhere else, it is not correct to put them all together. It is very confusing

  12. Actor Pages as checklists (sort & filter entries)

I'd like Actor Pages to have the ability to sort/filter specific actor's TV shows (or movies) by status [completed, watching, plan to watch]. Maybe also by runtime, rating, or some other statistic.

So we would essentially be able to use the actor pages as sort of a checklist for what we've seen from that actor or director, track a full filmography from a favorite actor, easily find a missed gem, bring their highest rated entries to the top to easily see what's worth checking out.

  13. Trakt Watch History Import Issue – Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2

    Hello Simkl Support,

I found an issue while importing my watch history from Trakt to Simkl.

"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" imported only partially. Season 1 was imported correctly, but Season 2 was not imported at all.

My Season 2 watch history exists on Trakt, but none of the Season 2 episodes appeared in Simkl after the import.

    Show: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

    Issue Details:

    • Season 1 imported correctly.
    • Season 2 did not import.
    • The watch history for Season 2 is present on Trakt.
    • Other shows imported successfully.

This appears to be a mapping or synchronization issue affecting only Season 2…

  14. Add a Travel & Places Discovery Section for Local Experiences

Many users enjoy discovering new destinations, attractions, restaurants, and hidden gems alongside tracking their favorite entertainment content. A dedicated travel and places discovery section could help users explore recommended destinations, create travel wishlists, and share local experiences with the community.

Features such as user-generated travel guides, destination reviews, photo sharing, and personalized recommendations could increase engagement and provide additional value for travelers worldwide.

As someone who regularly covers Dubai travel guides, attractions, and local experiences through https://dubaibrief.com/, I've noticed that users actively seek community-driven recommendations rather than generic travel information. Integrating a travel discovery feature could create a more…

  15. "Collected" tag/flag for episodes

Trakt used to do this for me, then then broke it and then... well, we all know what's happening with that dumpster fire!

Essentially all I'm after is a way to track episodes / movies that I have in my collection (ie have ripped / downloaded). I don't care about format (VHS, 720p, 4K... doesn't matter), just that I have it. A tick box to say "got it" is all I need.

A count of episodes (so I can easily spot missing ones) would be an additional lovely thing to have.

  16. Option to choose if you want separate tabs or combined.

So, when I'm looking for something to watch, I'd like the option to combine everything (TV, Movies & Anime) instead of having to go to each tab and search through them. Would it be possible to get an option where we can combine all three on the discovery/recommendation page? I'd also like lists to be combined, too, instead of having to separate them.

  17. More Free Movies/Shows/Series

I am from Greece and we have a free TVsite called ERTflix that every now and then hosts good shows, series and movies, I am also aware of the USA Tubi, it's locked to americans but still.
My notion is, it would be a cool accomplishmend to come in condact with as many of those local TV sites (usually free ones) and offer the information to us where we can watch the material we wish for free.
For exhample last month ertflix had Spiderman No Way Home for free and Tubi Gladiator. Not bad. They always have a movie that…

  18. Finished seasons on profile page

I don't want to be seen as ungratefull because the site is really good and shouldn't be taken for granded but all this time I was thinking that, to me, it would be great if I could have in my profile page, among the premiers, last aired etc a category/carusel "Just Finished" (season*), because I prefair to bing my series.

  20. After import, I can't see what was not imported

I imported one of my anime trakt lists but it then says "4 not anime" but there's no way to find out what they are! A larger issue is then just to allow us to have multi-medium lists. I don't unsterstand why they have to be discretely separated into TV, Movies, or Anime
