Games section
Please add Games section. This would be a great way for people who play games. And I think this will make this site perfect for everyone.

Pros: The "Plan to play", "Playing", "Finished", "Dropped", "On hold" categories can perfectly apply to lists of games. The rating system and reviews can also work. The recommendations, filter by genre, and the themes/tropes would be cool. We could make custom lists. See official franchises.
Cons: Tthe "how long I played them" is not something I want to bother myself with and log it in, I don't clock my gaming times, and there are already stats on steam or whatever game library I use... The physical media location also sounds like a lot of unnecessary clutter, or whether I own them physically or digitally. Same as movies have a "memo" fields, these fields can be used for that if someone likes to mark whatever info about their physical collection.

Very intriguing idea. But not a small ask to get it right.
Thinking of how Simkl works for movies and tv and imaging how games would likely get added, I would want to see the following improvements (these would also be good for physical media collecting of movie and TV shows):
- MUST: The system the game is for. You want to be able to track the Xbox, Nintendo and PS separately.
- NICE: The location it is stored for physical media. (Downstairs, library, living room, etc)
- NICE: The locations it is installed on for older media. For example, if I buy a game from Itch I might install it on mega drive, a handheld and a PC.
- MUST: Screenshots, videos and manuals.
- NICE: Retroachievement integration.
- MUST: Track every time you play it and how long. You can use custom lists for a lot of this stuff, which are essentially super tags. But being able to add CUSTOM FIELDS and CUSTOM SELECTION LISTS would be better. I track versus and coop and party games. And if a field is missing from the core data like the programmer who made it, I would not want to add a list for every programmer. Being able to add manuals and other physical artifacts (like picture of YOUR items) is something game collectors also like to be able to do.
I know this is a lot to ask. Which is why after trying game collecting site I keep finding myself going back to a spreadsheet.
Things I track that most game collecting sites have: title, release date, system, rating, max players, want to play, own, want to own, versus, coop, digital / physical ownership or both, price paid, current value, date purchased, publisher, do I own the loose game / box / manual / etc.
Things I track that most collecting sites don't have: party mode (more than 2 players), the game is embedded in a collection of games, is it a prototype or beta, does it require a special controller on the system, programmers who worked on it.

I never thought of this myself, but it is actually a great idea, I would've loved it.
I was even looking for alternative sites to do this, and didn't like the design so I gave up, but SIMKL would've been perfect for it.
Obviously, with an option to "never show games" for people who dislike it, same like it was done with animes.

I’d absolutely love this feature. Being able to track movies, TV shows, and anime is already great, but adding video games would take Simkl to another level. A single app where I can track everything I play and watch would be so convenient.

Connecting/Matching with friends and teammates.. https://gamerlinkapp.com/
Is a different niche... saw many sites that were launched.. but were not succesful
Example:
https://gametree.me/,
https://plink.gg/,
https://unblnd.com/ -

SteamDb has an extension and tools you can use to get all kinds of info, some stuff you need to get off github and you'll get explanations on how to do so.
It's useful for searching for games, seperating into superior categories than steam itself also has a feature to list by games being on sale at an all time low.
There are plenty of game services for legit stuff, plus you don't have too look too far if you are a jack Sparrow type (do research if you are too worried about ensuring personal safety) -

Things I would love to see for games section (If it ever gets considered)
These are mostly stuff i enjoyed with RAWG (which seems dead). I have tried alternatives for the features, but didn't find all of them in single place unfortunately :(
- A Discover feature that is similar to how it works for movies/shows in simkl. (Didn't find this level in other alternatives)
- Good UI (Backloggd has it)
- Sync from XBOX (InfiniteBacklog.net has it)
- Profile Stats (InfiniteBacklog has this too, but it really lacks discovery features) -

That will add bloats to the site, focus on one thing, and do it well instead of doing everything mediocre....

This would be amazing! I would love a list similar to movies for games. The current ones for games are bad.

Would be super cool to see this in the site, I'm a sucker for an "all in one" app.

I'd love a section for video games completed, that way I could have all 3 sites I use in 1 locations

This seems to go beyond the scope of the project but personally, i would enjoy such feature.
There one thing that Smikl does and very well. The ability to search for things and filtering the results like "completed", "not interesting" or "not in my list". This last one is very powerful because is a way to cut off all the content that you already know exists.
Previously to Simkl, I've lost hours on a simple task like finding a new movie to watch.
I'm really impressed by the app but know I'm also looking to a new App to do the same with Games but I can't find none :'(
Also, if you to choose to go with the "it's all about entertainment" I would suggest including books as well. -

I'm in for video games, it's all about entertainment isn't it? Totally worth it!

Although there are other alternatives for the tracking (like previously mentioned Raptr), I think SIMKL does a much better job of organizing and sorting items. It would be nice if there was a Game section.
I can understand if there are other things to focus on first. -

I think games will lose the focus.

I think Simkl should just stay on Movies / Games and there is many apps for tracking games. Best on is Raptr @ http://raptr.com/
