Add option to combine TV and anime into a single tab in the app
I get why some people want them seperated, but it would be more convenient for me to have them both together so I can view all recently aired and upcoming episodes in one place.

it sounds more like, that's something that could be addressed in your account's personal view. for example, a unified calendar or recent feed. on anilist, there is a home feed, that aggregates your activity. it has its faults, but, in your case, if a tv and anime aired, then you could enable both filters (or 3 with movies), and it'd show in the same feed.

Anime should/could only be in it's own "Anime" category.
Within said category, there will be sub category option for tv or movie. Does that sound like something that could help what your looking for?
