Reviews Guidelines

The recommended length is 200 to 500 words. The minimum length for reviews is 5 lines of text. Reviews which are too short or have been padded with junk text may be discarded. You may only post a single review per title.

What to include:

Your reviews should focus on the title's content and context. The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a movie or TV-series, but also why. Feel free to mention other titles you consider similar and how this one rates in comparison to them. Reviews that are not specific to the title will not be posted on our site. Please write in English only.

Click the plus button on a new line, then video button and insert:

  • Youtube urls like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgI2fqUNqPs
  • Giphy urls like this: http://giphy.com/gifs/batman-v-superman-supeman-dawn-of-justice-ZxQWodtj9kWs0
  • Twitter urls like this: https://twitter.com/CW_TheFlash/status/733796198688006144

What not to include:

Resist the temptation to review on other reviews or features visible on the page. This information (and its position on the page) is subject to change without notice. A review form is not an appropriate place to tell us there are errors in the database. If you'd like to tell us about a specific problem, please contact us.

Simkl is pleased to provide this forum for you to air your opinions on your favorite (or not-so-favorite) movies and TV-series. While we appreciate your time and reviews, we respectfully request that you refrain from including the following in your review:

  • Profanity, obscenities, or spiteful remarks.
  • Time-sensitive material (i.e. mentions of events, promotional tours, seminars, lectures, etc.).
  • Short or single-word reviews. We want to know why you liked or disliked the title.
  • Avoid unannounced spoilers! Please don't reveal crucial plot elements. If you include a spoiler without warning readers in advance your name will be added to a blacklist and, subsequently, all your reviews will be discarded automatically. Make sure to label a spoiler.
  • Phone numbers, mail addresses, personal URLs, email addresses, links to personal Twitter or Facebook pages etc.
  • Availability, price, or ordering/shipping information.
  • Advertising, promotions or solicitations of any kind.
  • Writing in ALL-CAPS! Writing sentences in all-uppercase characters is considered "SHOUTING" and must be avoided.
  • Content in languages other than English
Any review in violation of these guidelines will not be posted or may be edited to conform to the guidelines. In addition, Simkl reserves the right not to post any review for any reason.

Additional notes:

  • Your submission must be your own original work.
  • Please write in English only.
Three ways to mark text as a spoiler when writing a review
  1. Toolbar button. Select the text you want hidden, then click the eye-slash icon in the floating toolbar (next to the quote button). While you're editing, spoiler text gets an amber highlight with a small "SPOILER" label above it so you can still read it yourself.
  2. Type shorthand inside your review. Any of these formats get converted automatically when you save:
    • ||hidden text|| — same as Discord
    • >!hidden text!< — same as Reddit
    •
hidden text
— same as MAL / AniList / older forums
  3. Mix and match. You can use the toolbar on some sections and shorthand on others; it all ends up as the same kind of spoiler block.

How it looks to other readers

Spoiler text shows up as a dark block they can't see through. One click reveals it. Refreshing the page hides it again, so they won't accidentally see it next time they open the review.
